3 Tips For The Week Before Ironman Louisville
We're just one week out from Ironman Louisville. At this point, you've trained all you can train, so what should you do during the week before the big race? Here are three tips for you to remember leading up to race day.
2. Don't Try Anything New
Don't even think about getting new running shoes, trying out a new swimsuit, or switching to a new type of seat for bike. The best thing you can do is exactly what you've been doing in the months and weeks leading up to the race.
3. Visualize Yourself Racing
This week spend about 15 minutes each night in a quiet place. Try to eliminate all distractions during this time. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in the race. Picture yourself swimming through the Ohio, removing your wetsuit, putting on your helmet, lacing up your running shoes. Visualize every detail of what you will be doing on race day so that at race time you already know what and how you will do it.
"Swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles- BRAG FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE."
-John Collins, IRONMAN Founder
1. Rest!
You've spent the last couple months pushing your body, running, swimming, and biking to get your body in Ironman shape. Use this week to rest your muscles and your mind. You don't want to over work yourself. So go to bed early, try not to interrupt your normal sleep pattern and rest assure that you've done all you can to prepare for race day.2. Don't Try Anything New

5 Ways to Stay Hydrated
1) Chia
seeds
Yes,
they are related to the Chia pet! Chia seeds hold 9-10 times more water to help
hydrate during this extremely hot weather.
Add chia seeds in your water to insure hydration. Warning: Chia seeds
are extremely small so they may get stuck in your teeth.

2) Coconut
water
Coconut
water is actually a natural source of electrolytes and can be picked up at any
store near you. Although its best used after intense workout coconut water can
also be used to promote heart health!

3) Fruits
and veggies with high water content
Of course you have heard of watermelon, celery, lettuce and cucumber having huge H2O intake but did you know that star fruit, broccoli, baby carrots, and spinach have huge water intake as well? Stock up on all your fruits and veggies this summer not only to get healthy but hydrated.

4) Soups & Smoothies
With the above fruits and veggies in mind, you can either eat them raw or get creative with your meals. Make fruit smoothies in the morning to get your water intake for the first half of the day, then finish off the end the day with a vegetable soup to hydrate throughout the night.

5) Herbal
Teas
Not a big
fan of drinking water? Need a bit more flavor but with the benefits of water?
Herbal Teas without caffeine make a great substitute for water yet still
hydrates. Peppermint and Chamomile Tea are great places to start on your
hydrating adventures.

The Importance of a Proper Bike Fit
Anyone who plans to spend any length of time on a bicycle will greatly benefit from a proper bike fitting. A trained bike fitter knows which adjustments need to be made. A proper fit can improve your riding performance, comfort, help eliminate cycling-induced stress injuries and pains, and reduce rider fatigue.
We recommend getting your bike fit as soon as possible. Taking care of this as soon as you get your new bike will give you and your body time to adapt to changes made to your position on the bike.
At VO2 Multisport, we offer a variety of bike fittings, including Body Geometry Road Cycle Fit Methodology, F.I.S.T TT Cycle Fit Methodology, Retro Fit, Cleat Fit Alignment, and Regional Fit. We have three certified fitters on our staff with over 5,000 hours of combined fitting experience. In 2013, we completed over 300 bike fits alone! See what one of our happy customers has to say about their bike fitting experience at VO2 Multisport:
"I work with a lady who is so happy she was properly fit by you guys. I'mlooking at buying a new bike. I currently ride a Trek which needs a couple modifications and I'm working out the kinks in those… We just went through a Cycling Camp from the Greenville Cycling Center out of South Carolina and they strongly suggested a Retul fitting."
Schedule your bike fitting appointment by contacting one of our three bike fitting experts by calling the shop at 502-290-7433.
